A great guide for any law student! Date: December 28, 2008
"This book is incredibly informative and very truthful! This is the only book you'll need to prepare yourself for a successful law school experience. Professor McClurg has taught at many law schools and has a great deal of experience teaching 1Ls, so his insights are very valuable to any incoming law student. As a third-year law student, I can honestly say that this is a must read, and I only wish it had been published a few years ago!"

Most Helpful 1L prep book on the market! Date: December 17, 2008
"“1L of a Ride” is THE law school prep book for all of you 1Ls who are dying to know how to succeed in law school. I am currently a 2L, and I wish I could have read this book before entering law school – I certainly would have been less stressed and more prepared. The book gives practical, honest advice about what to expect and how to thrive as a 1L. From case briefing and the Socratic Method to exam preparation and Legal Writing, the author covers it all! I read the exam tips to prepare for my second year exams, and I know I will refer back to this book again and again. One of my favorite parts of the book are the candid comments from actual first year students, This “student voice” is genuine and representative of the range of emotions, trials, and triumphs that only 1Ls can describe. I highly recommend “1L of a Ride” for all of you who want to start off your first year of law school on the right foot!"

This book gives you an edge over the competition! Date: December 15, 2008
"If you read "1L of a Ride," trust me, you will have an edge over any student who hasn't read it. There is a reason Professor McClurg has won numerous teaching awards and other accolades from the legal community. This book is written much in the same way as McClurg teaches, with an engaging, entertaining yet always informative style. When reading this book, you feel like you are getting honest, personal advice from a trusted friend. Along with advice about how to manage your first year mentally and emotionally, you learn skills such as case briefing and effective note-taking that you will need on day one. And in law school, day one counts! The book also covers course outlining, exam preparation, and how to tackle and avoid the common mistakes that law students make on their exams. You will find these skills and information priceless. In addition to all of this, there are many personal stories written by current, successful law students that back up the advice found in the book and add to the conversational, accessible nature of the book. This is the book I wish I had read before my first year of law school and it's a book I would have found very useful as a reference throughout that entire year. I have read other law school prep books, and McClurg's book is unique in many ways. It is the only book that focuses solely on the first year of law school and all of the habits and skills, as well as the mentality, that you need to survive it. It's a little pricey, but when you're spending tens of thousands of dollars on law school, it's definitely an investment that will pay great dividends in your future as a law student."
